Over 400 Belvedere projects were realised between 1999 and 2009, under the motto: Conservation Through Development. The idea behind these projects was to link the present with physical-spatial context and heritage. The starting point in each case was a particular location. Politicians, project developers, culture historians, designers and members of the public worked together to realise these projects.
Designers worked in an experimental and more or less intuitive fashion, without an explicit frame of reference. The publication Design with Heritage fills this void. The book describes the various design approaches, illustrates them with examples, and places the strategies in a historical perspective, thus presenting findings for the first time in way that is both profound, comprehensive and accessible.
